Canary Cup First Round Success

Swavesey Yr5/6 Footballers battle through to the Canary Cup Final.

Yesterday afternoon, Swavesey Primary school took part in the ‘Canary Cup’ at Northstowe and managed to battle their way through to the final.

In the group stages, we faced four schools: The Grove, Fulbourn, Stukeley Meadows and Sutton. Incredibly, we managed to remain unbeaten while not conceding a single goal – we drew three games 0-0 and won one game 1-0.

This meant we progressed to the semi-final to face a very tough opponent – Harston and Newton. In an incredibly tight game, we snuck a 1-0 win and moved on to the final.

Waiting for us in the final was our best opponent on the day by far - Histon. They scored two excellent goals and deservedly won the game 2-0.

To be runners-up in such a notoriously high-quality tournament is testament to how well Swavesey worked as a team. Well done to all of the players who took part – you represented the school brilliantly and should be very proud of how you performed.
