Year 3 and 4 Empathy Poems

For empathy week, we have read numerous poems in order to explore what it is like to be in someone else's shoes.  Following this, we created our own poems - this was a great way to practise expressing our emotions whilst considering how other people may feel in different situations.

Take a look at some of our poems listed below:

What is my name?

I am the light of a firework,

I am the sound of the birds tweeting,

I am the heart of the people dying at war,

I am as funny as a clown in a circus,

I am the joy that comes with winning a race,

I am as responsible as a guide dog helping his person,

I am as friendly as the sun,

I am as loyal as the queen,

I care about everyone I see.

By Jason

What is my name?

I am the crazy one of my friend group,

I am the sound of the booming volcano,

I am the engine of the F1 car,

I am the bright orange yolk of an egg,

I am the pristine sand of the golden beach,

I am the bright sun amongst the crowd,

I am the money in the precious bank account,

I am the honey from a bee,

I am the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow,

I am the beautiful shining diamond,

I am the leader of an army,

I am funnier than a clown at a circus,

I am the golden star standing at the top of a Christmas tree,

I am the heart beating like a drum,

I am as loyal as the queen,

I am kind not mean,

My family and friends love me for who I am,

I am Bertie!

By Bertie

What is my name?

I am the one that stands out from the crowd,

I am a dancer like birds at Christmas,

I am loyal like my mum,

I am the Nutella on top of my toast,

I am the heart of your soul,

I am a shining diamond in the crashing bumpy sea,

I am the soul of the party,

I am as wise as an owl,

I am the butterfly shining in the midday,

I am the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,

I am the school gates swinging at quarter past three,

I am the star shining upon the bright blue sky,

My friends and family love me for who I am,

I am Ayla!

Things that Make Me Feel Sad …

I get sad when the sky goes black,

And my card can’t be sent,

When they resay what I say but don’t say what I meant,

If animals die it can make me cry.

So, I’ll try to think of good things,

Maybe that will cheer me up,

Like when Nanna makes tiramisu,

And my cousins say ‘’Boo,’

When wars end and animal lovers are born,

When I get a new book that looks really good,

When I eat apple pie,

And when I see a picture of my past,

These all make me happy cry.

By Alice

Things That Make Me Sad …

When I just got a new Tesla and it broke on the highway,

My friend said that he would share a toy but he never did,

Going on holiday only to find it got cancelled,

Going to the doctor for a kidney stone extraction.

So, I’ll try and think of good things,

Maybe that will cheer me up,

I won a go-kart race,

I went to the beach and collected shells,

I went to an amusement park and played mini golf,

I ate a gigantic mint ice-cream.

By Nicholas

Things That Make Me Sad …

When plastic gets in the water and fish are dead,

When my favourite dolly gets lost,

My ice cream has melted in the sun,

My favourite dress is ruined,

When I get left out of a game,

My book getting ripped apart.

So, I’ll try and think of good things,

Maybe that will cheer me up,

Cuddling my new kitty, a teddy called Joy,

Playing with my friends at school,

People caring for each other and being kind,

Everybody giving money to poor people,

Munching my favourite chocolate bar!

By Anna-Maria

Things That Make Me Sad …

A close relative died,

When I tripped in the race,

My best friend getting Covid and missing the sleepover,

Orangutans’ habitats becoming extinct,

Missing the bus,

My teddy ripping apart,

So, I’ll try and think of good things,

Maybe that will cheer me up,

Cuddling my new pet with happiness,

Going on holiday to Greece,

Lounging on a sun lounger,

Eating a strawberry ice cream!

By Claire

Things That Make Me Sad …

Losing a family member I really love,

Not sleeping because of the heat,

Getting a maths question completely wrong,

People getting in my personal space,

Being left out from my favourite games,

Feeling sick whilst on holiday,

Plans being cancelled because of the rain.

So, I’ll try and think of good things,

Maybe that will cheer me up.

Waking up on the morning of my birthday,

Travelling on an aeroplane to a new country,

Coming home from school and having my favourite dinner,

Waking up knowing that it is the summer holidays,

Getting a new pet I really wanted,

When war ends and peace is upon us,

People respecting each other’s own unique way of life.
