School Grounds Clear Up Day

Full CalendarDiary Dates

This event will take place between 10:00am and 2:00pm on 04/03/2021.

Dear Parents,

As you will hopefully have seen from our diary dates we will be holding a ‘School Grounds Clear Up Day’ on Saturday 27th April. The aim of the day is to gather a volunteer workforce to support us in undertaking a range of tasks within our school grounds, which we have not able to do ourselves within the bounds of the working week with a small premises team.

The school will be open from 10.00am to 1pm. If you are able to join us for all or part of the time we would love to see you. Refreshments including ‘Bacon butties’ (with a vegetarian equivalent) will also be provided for busy workers.

The following gives a list of some of the tasks we hope to undertake. All work will be manual and will require suitable heavy duty clothing (including gloves) which is likely to become dirty. As we have very few tools we would also ask volunteers to bring tools with them to aid the work, a list of which is also below. Children are welcome to join in but will need to be supervised by their own parents/carers. Please note there are some tasks children will not be able to help with due to their nature.

Tasks: Clearing the ditch which runs through our conservation area between the playground and field – we need to clear the brambles and over grown trees so we have easier access. You will need wellingtons or waders for this job too.

Building a platform in the conservation area over the ditch to create a viewing point. This will require powertools. If anyone has wood they could donate to the project this would be gratefully received (if you are able please let us know).

Setting up netting by bridge over the ditch once ditch area is cleared

Putting in paving slabs to an area in the carpark

Pruning and trimming in various areas

Preparing areas in the ‘quiet area’ for planting and possible planting.

Dredging the pond – waders will be needed for this

Increasing the height of the sand pit edging

Moving equipment and clearing in the Reception outside area

Litter picking across the outside site
