Updates from Mrs Norden

A huge well done to our Swavesey's Got Talent competition winners, and our Year 5/6 children for their fabulous production this week.  Our children have been showing how amazingly talented and resilient they truly are.  This was especially evident on Tuesday evening, when a technology malfunction led to children singing solos and duets without any accompaniment while adults tried to fix the problem. They were incredible!

Hopefully your primary children have brought home a Jubilee book and bookmark.  We understand these have been given to all children across the UK as part of the Jubilee celebrations.  We are trying to see if we can access copies for our preschoolers.

Further to the White Paper published by the government, which I mentioned last week, they have also published a Green Paper relating to special educational needs and disabilities.  The LA have produced a letter for parents which can be found here and their accompanying response to the consultation which can be accessed here. Please do read through these documents so that you can keep abreast of the changes which are being recommended.

Another hot week has come to an end, with even hotter weather being forecast for the start of next week.  Jonathan Lewis, our director of eduction, attended a DfE briefing today from which guidance for schools has been published by the LA and DfE which we will be following.   There is no intention to grant permission for school closures at this time, and so we will be making changes to activities including organisation for playtime and some curriculum provision, seeking shade should we be outside, increasing ventilation as much as we can and encouraging children to stay hydrated.

Please can we ask you to help us in the following ways - ensuring children come in clothing which will support them in staying cool e.g. shorts instead of long trousers, summer dresses instead of pinafores.  PE clothing is still asked for on PE days as the children will engage in calm indoor activities such as yoga. We simply ask that clothing is appropriate for school i.e. no swimming costumes.  Please make sure they have a water bottle with them which is filled when they arrive.  They have sun cream on and bring cream to reapply.  They have a sun hat and if they do come with jumpers or cardigans that you remind them they need to take them off to stay cool.

Hopefully all actions will support the children in staying as cool as possible, hydrated and well.

Year 3/4 Cricket Tournament
On Tuesday 28th June, some of year 3/4 were lucky enough to take part in SCSSP's Dynamo Cricket Tournament! We played incredibly well and were resilient throughout, despite aspects of the game being new to us. Thank you to those involved in organising the event, we had a fantastic day...

Many thanks for your cooperation and understanding

Rotary Club - YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER 2022/23

THEME 'THE BEAUTY OF ARCHITECTURE'

We are again running the Young Photographer competition. I would not normally send details until the new school year but in view of the subject matter, I thought the summer holidays may give an opportunity for some interesting photographs.

The rules are the same with one photograph being submitted digitally with brief description of why it represents the theme. There is one change in that the Junior section has no lower age limit. Photographer should be submitted by 31st December at the latest.  Please access the poster and entry form here.

Our Vacancies - As a school we have vacancies in our midday supervisor team. Information can be found using this link here.

Lost property - Unnamed items are on the fence at the front of the Reception and Preschool entrance or the benches in the quiet area for you to check.  Any items left at the end of term will go for second hand sale.  We will endeavour to run a second hand stall again before the end of term.
