Updates from Mrs Norden

I cannot believe that we are almost at the end of the first week of the school holiday, and that it was only a week ago that we were saying goodbye whilst sharing so many cherished memories from the last 11 years.

It has been a sad time as we have said goodbye to Mrs Poskitt, Mrs Namur, Mrs Durrant and Mrs Allen. However, in doing so, we have celebrated so many wonderful successes and events that they have been a part of, or led.   Our children and families have always been at the heart of all they have done in their different roles, and they will be missed by the whole school community. We are incredibly grateful to them for everything they have done for us across the many collective years they have been with the school, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavours.

This will be my last newsletter and time to reflect on what the school has been doing.  Whilst compiling all the administrative elements and troublesome links will be forgotten in a moment, the joy of reading the articles written by the children and staff, looking through the photo galleries showing enjoyment and achievement and providing explanations about adventures undertaken, or new ventures to come, are things I will very much miss.

So, for the last time this academic year, please find below links to articles about some of the activities the children were involved in during the last few weeks of term. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as the children enjoyed the opportunities. You will also be able to read the governing body's annual report by clicking here, which details the work of the governors, alongside the school, over the last year.

My 33-year career has taken me from being a newly qualified teacher to a headteacher through societal and educational changes that have been significant.  From a school with a single stand-alone BBC computer and a Banda copier to create worksheets (pre-photocopiers), to working 'in the cloud' and expected instancy of all things, with a distinct lack of funding for the technological and educational ambitions of the world around us.

However, the heart of being a teacher, and a headteacher, for me has never changed.  It has always been about nurturing the children in my care to grow and develop as holistic beings.  This has meant taking time to hear their voice, making time for their dreams as well as championing opportunities beyond government directives.  As the headteacher of a school, to maintain this also needs dedicated and passionate staff, proactive governing bodies and supportive families, which I have been fortunate to have had throughout my career, especially through my 11 years at Swavesey Primary.

The school will begin a new exciting chapter in its long history in September with more wonderful adventures to come. I hope you will welcome and support your new headteacher, Mrs Ogilvie, as you have done me, to ensure the school continues to go from strength to strength through the changes that will come over the next 11 years and more.

Thank you all for your part in helping our children and school to bloom and for enabling me to do so too, and I wish you all the very best for the future.

150 'golden' miles in a school year earns a 'Diamond' certificate and medal for Year 6 Moses and Jesse.
A year of intense running at every golden mile club session results in 150.74 miles in a school year, even with lots of cancelled sessions during the wet weather... AMAZING achievement.

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
