Updates from Mrs Norden

The weather this week has certainly been much colder and despite the dry days we have had a fair amount of rain.  All of this has impacted on us in varied ways, from needing to limit play and PE spaces used to trying to balance ventilation to reduce possible Covid transmission alongside keeping everyone warm. 

Unfortunately, efforts can still lead to negative outcomes with  even our hard surfaces being muddy and, whilst the boilers are pumping the heating out, ventilation needs due to Covid counteract this and lead to us being a bit cold at times.

As you may be aware, our CO2 monitors arrived towards the end of the autumn term, and we now have them in all classroom and EY&P.  These are supporting us in checking CO2 levels and taking action should they rise, which simply means more doors and windows are opened to increase ventilation.  During quiet 'work time', levels are generally low but as class discussions and more physical activities are undertaken we see rates increase - not all learning is simply sitting in your place in silence!  It was interesting that in the older classes rates rose considerably on the last day of term where routines were forgone.  This does mean that our children do need to layer up so that they can stay warm when doors and windows need to be opened, so please encourage them to bring jumpers to school and to also ensure they have a coat for outside play. 

Turning to a different theme, this year is the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and we will be joining in with various activities, details of which will be disseminated as they are confirmed.  You may be aware that there is a competition to create a pudding for the Jubilee, which is open to all UK residents aged 8 and over.  If you or your children are budding bakers click here to find out more. Another large scale initiative is the Queen's green Canopy, which encourages us all to plant a tree for the Jubilee.  We planted a set of trees on our field last year to begin developing a small copse, and will be adding to this later this term as our part in the green canopy scheme.  Please look out for further details on this and how the children will be involved with the planting. Admin Updates:

1. Term Dates 2022 - 2023 - click here

2. Head Lice - Please can we ask you to check your children regularly for head lice as we have reoccurring cases which would indicate that they are not always being treated.  If they do have head lice please treat to help us break the cycle.

3. Emails to the office - please can we remind you to put your child's name and class in the subject of any email as not all admin staff (or those who may stand in on occasion) can identify this information from the senders name and so it can lead to us taking longer than necessary to resolve any issues or pass messages on. 

4. Termly letters etc. for Yrs 1- 6 - These will be sent out to you today for each phase but can also be accessed via the phase website pages found under the main 'Curriculum' page which can be accessed here.
