Scholastic Travelling Book Fair is visiting Swavesey Primary School

Wednesday 12th November – Monday 17th November

What is a Scholastic Book Fair?

A Scholastic Book Fair is a pop-up celebration of reading that puts the very best books directly into children’s hands, while raising Rewards to spend on free books and essential resources for our school.

Mobile bookcases will arrive at school, packed with over 200 of the newest and best books from over 60 publishers, including exclusive titles that you won’t see in shops or at any other Fairs.

All children across school will be given the opportunity to browse the Book Fair with their class and make a Wish List of books that they would like to buy with some amazing discounts.

The Book Fair is aimed to keep the excitement for reading going! Every book sold at the Fair helps to earn FREE BOOKS for our school!

Please note that this year we will be running the Book Fair slightly differently. We have listened to feedback from last year and want to improve the experience of browsing books at the Book Fair. The Book Fair will only be open to pupils during the school day, NOT after school. Parents will be able to look at their child’s Wish List, browse books online and make payments at home. You can find out more about the books available and confirm prices at https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/bookcases

How it will work:

  1. Your child will browse the pop up Book Fair with their class and share book recommendations with each other during the school day on Thursday 13th November or Friday 14th November.
  2. They will make a note of any books that they are interested in purchasing in a Wish List which will then be sent home for you to see. Look out for this!
  3. If you would like to purchase any of the books on their Wish List, or books from the online book store, you will need to make an online payment by clicking on the link, https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/pay/1437287, or scanning the QR Code and selecting Swavesey Primary School.
  4. Once you have paid online, return the sheet to your child’s class teacher, clearly labelled with the names of the books ordered, along with your payment reference number.
  5. We will then supply the books from the book fair and send them home with your child.

IMPORTANT: This order sheet MUST be returned to school by Monday 17th November to guarantee the books whilst our Book Fair is running.

Thank you in advance. This is a great opportunity to share the love of reading, whilst earning new books for our classroom shelves.

Chickens

The year 5/6 chicken helpers are doing a great job at looking after Penny, Heather, Dotty, April and Emerald. Throughout the year, other children will be given an opportunity to volunteer to help.

If you have any spare egg boxes, please bring them to the school office. Thank you.

School Uniform and Lost Property

The school uniform dress code is as follows:

  • Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
  • White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
  • Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
  • Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
  • Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
  • A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.

Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.

Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

We have a new ottoman in the front entrance for storing unnamed items of lost property. This will be cleared out regularly as we do not have space to store huge amounts of lost property.

See below for second-hand uniform, if you need anything.

Pupil Premium

At our parents' information sessions, we also shared information about how you can sign up to receive support through Pupil Premium funding for your child.

Pupil Premium is extra funding given to schools to help children who may face barriers to learning—such as those from low-income families, in care or adopted, or with parents in the armed forces.

If you receive benefits like Income Support or income-based JSA/ESA, your child may qualify. Even if your child gets Universal Free School Meals (Reception–Year 2), you must still apply to unlock Pupil Premium funding.

For more information see: Pupil Premium Information

New Intake - Talk and Tours 2026

We are holding four Talk and Tours this term for families with children starting in Reception in September 2026. The format will be a tour with Mrs Ogilvie, across the school 'at work', to see our environment, organisation and an opportunity to ask questions. These are aimed primarily at parents; there are opportunities later in the year for the children to visit the school. Please be aware that if you bring your child, you may not be able to visit all areas as the school will be 'in action'. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pushchairs around the school tour.

They will last approximately an hour. The dates are as follows:

  • Wednesday 19th November at 9.30am

If you would like to attend one of these meetings, please complete the form below.

Welcome to our ‘online safety’ advice, guidance and support page, ‘Wake Up Wednesday (WUW) - what parents / carers need to know’. Each week we will post articles of interest to our newsletter that should help you and your child.

Children regularly use different websites and apps from their parents, and it can be hard to keep up in this ever-changing digital world. These weekly updates from the National College aim to cover important topics such as online safety, mental health, wellbeing, and climate change.

Could you foster?

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
