We have had a very successful first week back across the school, and it is hard to believe how quickly the year has gone by. We now find ourselves in the final half term of the academic year – and the last part of the summer term! That certainly feels surprising, particularly given the classic British summer weather we have experienced this week.
Our Year 6 pupils have been away on their PGL residential and, by all accounts, have had a brilliant time taking part in a wide range of exciting activities. We have certainly missed them in school – and I am sure you have missed them at home – but we know they will return with wonderful memories, plenty of stories to share, and experiences they will treasure as they begin preparing for their transition to secondary school.
Back at school, our Year 5 pupils have really stepped up and shown that they are more than ready to become our role models next year. They have had a fantastic week designing and making board games (which proved particularly useful during wet play!) and also enjoyed an incredible experience working with a world champion BMX rider. The children learnt some amazing tricks and demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout. It’s fair to say that everyone had a brilliant time – perhaps with the exception of Mr Quinlan, Mrs Turian, Mr Thompson and Mrs Cotton, who were the lucky few selected to be jumped over during the final showcase!
Our Year 1 and Year 2 children have also been out in the village this week as part of their geography learning. They have enjoyed exploring Swavesey and identifying both human and physical geographical features within their local community. Despite the wet weather, the children had a great time, and we are particularly grateful to the parent volunteers who supported us on the walks.
Looking ahead, this half term is full of exciting and special experiences for all our pupils. We are looking forward to upcoming events such as the school summer fayre, Sports Day, and the very exciting return of Swavesey’s Got Talent. The children heard all about the talent competition in assembly today and many are already planning how they will showcase their skills. Further details and dates will be shared in a letter soon, and we encourage you to support your child in preparing their performance.
Next week will also be another busy one in school. Our Year 4 pupils will be completing their multiplication tables check, our Year 1 pupils will be taking part in their phonics screening check, and class photographs will take place on Thursday 11th – so please ensure children come to school in their smartest uniform.
As always, information about events and key dates can be found on the school website, and we will continue to email updates and reminders as needed.

Swavesey has got Talent 2026
We are thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of Swavesey’s Got Talent! This is always a highlight of the year and a fantastic opportunity for our children to share their amazing skills, creativity and confidence with the whole school community.
Whether it’s singing, dancing, magic, comedy, sports skills, or something completely unique, we are inviting all children to take to the stage and showcase their talents—just as so many have done so brilliantly in previous years. Taking part is entirely optional, but we encourage everyone to consider getting involved in what promises to be another exciting and memorable event.
All children who sign up will first take part in in-school “heats” within their phases, where acts will be shortlisted for the grand final. The heats will take place during the following week:
- Year 3 & 4 Heats: Monday 16th June
- Year 5 & 6 Heats: Tuesday 17th June
- Year 1 & 2 Heats: Thursday 19th June
- Reception Heats: Across the same week
The grand final will then take place on Friday 26th June, where our finalists will perform for the school in what is always a fantastic celebration of talent.
The children heard all about the event in today’s assembly and excitement is already building, with lots of ideas being planned! A letter with full details on how to sign up and further information will be shared next week.
We can’t wait to see the incredible talents our pupils will bring to the stage this year – start practising!

A reminder that class photographs will be taking place on Thursday 11th June.
Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their full, smart school uniform on this day so that they are ready for their photo.
We look forward to capturing these special moments!

Mobile Phones Reminder
A gentle reminder that if your child brings a mobile phone to school, it must be handed in at the school office at the start of the day. This is for important safeguarding purposes, ensuring all devices are stored securely during the school day.
We also ask that a permission form is completed for any child bringing a phone into school.
Please contact the school office to request this form or if you have any further questions.
|
|
School Gate Reminder – Please Close Securely
A gentle reminder to all parents and carers using the school gate, particularly during after-school club collections, to please ensure that the gate is closed firmly behind you when entering and leaving the site.
We have noticed a number of occasions where the gate has either been closed too forcefully or not quite fully, preventing the locking mechanism from engaging properly. This has resulted in the gate remaining partially open.
While our staff are monitoring the situation, we kindly ask for your support in checking that the gate has closed securely each time you use it. Taking a moment to do this helps us to maintain a secure site and ensures all children remain safely safeguarded.
Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support.

School Uniform and Lost Property
Please help!!! We have acquired lots of lost property since the start of term and would love to reunite it with their owners, but we can’t as it is all unnamed. If you think you are missing anything, then please pop into reception.
If it doesn’t get collected by the Easter holidays, then it will go to charity.
School Uniform and Lost Property
The school uniform dress code is as follows:
- Black or grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafores
- White or red polo shirt (with or without school logo)
- Red cardigan, or sweatshirt (with or without school logo)
- Red and white summer dress (we request no play suits in EYFS, please)
- Plain white, grey or black socks or tights
- Sensible black shoes (sandals may be worn in the summer but these need to be practical for indoor and outdoor learning and play)
- A sun hat for hot days and a waterproof coat for cold/wet days which are suitable/appropriate for school and weather conditions.
Our PE Kit - children come to school in their PE kit on PE days -please ensure it is appropriate for the weather conditions.
- Black, grey or navy shorts
- Plain short-sleeved T-Shirt in your child's house colour (with or without school logo) - red, blue, purple, yellow or green
- Black, grey or navy jogging bottoms/leggings
- Plain jumper or hooded top which is appropriate for PE sessions, i.e. does not restrict movement and provides warmth for outdoor PE
- Trainers for outdoor PE with good grip
- Plain sports socks
Children should not be coming to school in any other items of clothing.
Whilst we ask for our children to have specific items of clothing in certain colours, as you can see there is flexibility within this and items do not have to have the school logo on and do not have to be from a specific shop or a specific brand. We do use the company 'Total clothing' to provide our logo imprinted clothing/items (details of which can be found below) but you do not have to purchase them.
Our PTA ( PTA@swavesey.cambs.sch.uk ) have a permanent stock of 'pre-loved' uniform items and the poster below provides details of how to enquire about this second-hand clothing.
Please make sure that you label every item of your child's school uniform. Every week we have multiple 'lost' items that we cannot return as they are unnamed. If it is named, it will be returned to its owner!

School Garden Club
The children have been working hard, planting salad, vegetables and flower plants, kindly donated once again by the Oakington Garden Centre. We are so grateful for their support. We have also been able to purchase some new watering cans, courtesy of Compass Café, which were well used over half term in the recent hot weather. Big shout out to the children who have been helping with the watering and the plants have responded well.
I am on holiday for the next two Fridays, 12th and 19th, so those who do the watering are asked to continue if there is no rain – may not be needed so much looking at the forecast!
I plan to tidy as much of the gardens, both front and back, so that we can show off what we have been doing when the community supports the school fete on 26th. Please do encourage people to come and look and any produce that may be available can be sold for PTA funds. If you or anyone you know can help with a bit of weeding it would be much appreciated! Contact me on sueollive@solomail.co.uk
I have been invited to run the Compass Café at Bethel Baptist Church on Thursday 30 July to raise funds for the garden club. Please do come and support us and children are welcome. If any of my regular helpers at the club would like to help at the café, please let me know.
If any of you can help with the garden over the summer break please let me know on the email above. Plants don’t stop growing, including weeds, during the holidays!!
Thanks for your support so far.

At Nexus Fostering based in Lolworth, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01223 903 503 or email Leanne on leannea@nexusfostering.co.uk.
