Updates from Mrs Norden

You may have noticed over the last few weeks work has been happening in our quiet area.  This is the realisation of the project carried out by our school councils of 2019/20 and 2020/21.

The project began in the Autumn term of 2019 but was brought to a halt in spring 2020 due to the pandemic and the national lock downs.  When children returned fully to school in September 2020, the school council from the academic year before continued in post and were joined by the new council to continue the planning work.

In between further lock downs, which caused more interruptions to proceedings, the final plan for the quiet area was completed in the summer term 2021.  We then looked at beginning the actual work but again came up against barriers which included needing trees - which were undermining the surface structure of the area - to be removed by the LA, accumulating the funds necessary and finding a contractor to carry out the work.

All external contractor work has taken the past two years to complete with the final work being finished last Friday.  My gardeners, Mr Bidwell and myself will have the last roles to play through filling and planting our new flower beds, weeding and bringing the gardening club area back under control, and siting Dandelion (see her journey below) securely back in place.

We have begun to use the area again this week and the work already completed is achieving most of the objective the previous school councils set.  This was to create an area (decimated by all the build work in 2015/16) which was more aesthetic, lending itself better to being a 'quiet space' for eating and working.

All the councillors involved should be proud of the work they undertook to gather the ideas of the student body and putting this into a workable plan.  The 'quiet area' has become a much calmer and enjoyable place, and we look forward to completing the final jobs to bring their plan to full fruition.
