Year 6 'A' league WINNERS, 'B' league 4th place and a 'Spirit of the Games' Winner, reflects a great afternoon of sport!

All smiles for the 'A' league WINNERS, on a hot March afternoon.

On Wednesday 26th March, two teams from Year 6 travelled to Shelford Rugby Club to compete in the SCSSP Tag Rugby Tournament. There were twelve players in each team; boys and girls.

Swavesey As were first to play, with the B team cheering on. The first match finished with a close 5-4 win against Jeevons Wood. The second match was even tougher and ended level in a 2-2 draw with Histon Brook. Onto the third match, which ended in a 4-1 win against Cottenham, followed by a 4-3 win against Linton Heights. The final match was against the University of Cambridge and ended with a 5-2 win! This meant that Swavesey A would now be playing for 1st or 2nd place overall. The team were positive going into the final game and worked well together, passing well, tagging the opposition and the match ended with an 8-4 win, which meant that Swavesey A had won overall! What a talented team you were, working hard and not giving up at all.

Swavesey B's first match was against Linton Heights B and ended in a win! Unfortunately, the second match against Pendragon B and third match against Histon Brook B ended in defeat for Swavesey B, but the games were particularly good. The fourth game, however, ended in a win. The team showed great resilience after two previous losses. The final game against Trumpington Park B also ended in a loss, but the team were still happy with their efforts during the afternoon, finishing in 4th place.

After the medals were presented to the winners and runners-up, all teams received a certificate for participating. The nominations were then read out for the ‘Spirit of the Games’ recognition. The nominations are put forward by schools taking part, and sports leaders involved. Nominations are for children showing school games values during the afternoon. Alice B was nominated for teamwork, honesty, and passion. Well done Alice B!

Here are some quotes about the afternoon from the players:
