The Year 5 'BMX workshop' is full of thrills and skills.

Mike Mullen, ex BMX World Champion, once again thrills us all with his skills after a busy BMX workshop for Year 5 children.
On Tuesday, a wet and drizzly day, the school welcomed, once again, ex BMX World Champion, Mike Mullen to school to spend the day with the Year 5 children for a BMX workshop.
This workshop was the 'polar opposite' to what the children had been learning during their 'bike-ability' training on the roads.
Mike is always very clear about the 'safety implications' of the skills and tricks he teaches, and makes children very aware of when it is appropriate to try them out! The children were shown how to safely ride a BMX, over small ramps (should they want to) plus lots of different tricks (again, if they wanted to).
The weather started to clear up after lunch, so the whole school was treated to a fantastic BMX display (cancelled last year due to rain) by 20 Year 5s, plus the popular 'showcase' of tricks and skills by Mike himself. Screams and clapping were deafening as the younger children and staff watched.
The 'finale' was for Mike to ride up a ramp and 'fly' through the air over six members of staff! His record is 12, so I've told him we should try that next year!
All the children taking part loved the experience and built up their resilience and confidence during their sessions and, in particular, those who performed in the 'showcase', who were very brave indeed.
