Year 5 / 6 Boys YDP Cup Football Tournament

A great day of football in the YDP CUP.

Swavesey took ten Year 5/6 footballers to Ramsey Abbey School last Friday to take part in the annual YDP tournament.

The tournament began with a narrow 1–0 defeat in a close game, with some excellent saves from Fred keeping us in it. In our second match, we made a brilliant start and raced into a 2–0 lead thanks to some excellent midfield work from Morgan, leading to a bottom‑corner finish from Henry and a wonder strike from Ben. Sadly, Warboys fought back well and eventually won 3–2. We were then beaten 3–0 by a team who performed much better than us on the day and went on to become the overall winners of the tournament. Our final group game ended in a 0–0 draw, with excellent defending from Ganseng, Nosa and Elliot, along with some superb goalkeeping from Freddie.

Our tricky group stage meant we entered the plate tournament, where we faced Linton Heights in the quarter‑finals. In a hard‑fought match, we performed superbly and won 3–1 thanks to goals from Ben, Henry and Joseph - as well as some excellent link‑up play from Jackson.

Next, we took on Holywell in the semi‑final. We started brightly and created several chances, but after failing to convert them, we were unlucky to concede from a long‑range effort. As we pushed for an equaliser, we were caught out twice more, and the game finished 3–0.

Well done to all the players who represented the school brilliantly throughout the tournament.

Thank you to Ms Pipe, for accompanying us to the tournament.
