Thank you and good luck to the existing, and welcome to the new 'Sports Leaders' for 2026/27

The team of newly trained 'Sports Leaders' for 2026/27.
At the end of June, 21 Year 5 applicants undertook an afternoon of Sports Leader training with myself and a member of the SCSSP.
Throughout the afternoon, small groups worked together, setting up games, learning to play them and then leading them to involve the other leaders.
The group showed great maturity during the afternoon, asking sensible questions and thinking about how their role would impact the younger children in school during lunchtime play.
In Thursday's 'Celebration Sport' assembly, the school thanked our wonderful existing Year 6 Sports Leaders for an amazing year in the role. There were many hands in the air when the younger children were asked if they had played any of the games set up at lunchtime. I know a lot of the current leaders applied for the role because they too had memories of playing with Sports Leaders in Reception and KS1.
Those attending the Reception /KS1 School Games would have seen how reliable they are, leading the zones, scoring, organising, supporting and hopefully inspiring the future generation of sports leaders! I hope those moving to SVC or Northstowe, will one day become sports leaders again and be part of the many SCSSP events during the year. Thank you to them all and good luck in the future...
The newly qualified Sports Leaders were presented with their certificate (badges in September) and will undertake their new role in the penultimate week of school, with the Year 6s available to help or advise if they require it. They will then work on a rota basis, covering every lunchtime throughout 2026/27. Good luck to them all. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and gain a lot from the experience, as will the younger children you work with.
