ESFA Under 11 Football Competition

ESFA Under 11 Football Competition

Swavesey took two teams to the annual ESFA tournament at Histon and Impington college on Tuesday afternoon and both teams represented the school brilliantly.

The boys finished joint 5th, drawing 1-1 in their opener and winning 4-1 in their final game. They lost just one game in-between, against the eventual champions - Waterbeach.

The girls however, did especially well, bringing home the coveted winner's shield after a dramatic final game.

They played six games overall, remaining undefeated throughout the whole tournament - doing so, quite amazingly, without conceding a single goal!

In the group stage, the girls won three games and drew their two others, sealing a top place finish as well as the right to face Histon and Impington in the final.

Histon and Impington had won the competition two years in a row, but a determined team performance saw Swavesey grind out a 0-0 draw and take the game to penalties -  a cruel way to end any match. The girls held their nerves though, firing home 5 perfect penalties after hero goalkeeper, Emily N had saved the first penalty of the shoot-out.

Well done to all who took part and giving the school another shiny trophy for Mrs Turian's new cabinet.
