Year 6 Mixed Cricket : Rain stops play

A sunny start but a stormy end...

On Wednesday 10th June, two Year 6 teams headed off to Foxton Cricket Club to take part in Cambridgeshire County Cricket Schools 'MIXED'Competition.

After a rainy week so far, the sunshine looked hopeful to remain for the competition. Both teams were put in either a 'blue' or 'red' league. 'Red' league had their first match against Meldreth, who were excellent at cricket, as most played for a club. Swavesey played really well, but lost by 42 runs in the end.

Before the 'red' team started their second match and 'blue' their first, the wind began to pick up and the sky began to blacken once again. Both teams started well, but then the rain came, and all teams had to abandon their pitches and seek shelter, under gazebos or in the cricket pavilion.

In true British Summer style, it rained and rained and thundered and thundered. As it started to stop, and we became hopeful and started to go outside again, it started to rain again...

After a lot of deliberation, it was decided even if the rain did stop, the surface would be unsafe to play on, so the competition was cancelled. Lunch was had by all the teams in the pavilion, whilst waiting for coaches to collect the teams earlier than planned.

A real shame it was cut short, but the children enjoyed what little they had. Sadly, most of the 'blue' team didn't even get the chance to do anything, as they were in bat first!

Never mind, the summer will return again soon...
