Year 3 and 4 Ancient Greek Day
Year 3 and 4 were delighted to step into an authentic Greek agora during their Ancient Greek Day on Monday.
An abundance of Greek-themed market stalls filled our school hall; with children exploring Greek pottery making, visiting an apothecary to make medicine and provide cures for the ill, carving marble statues out of soap, making mosaic tiles and crushing olives using a pestle and mortar to make olive oil.
During the afternoon, our Athenian citizens celebrated their victory over the Persians in the Battle of Marathon. The city came alive with Greek dancers, marching celebratory soldiers and actors and actresses performing a Greek comedy or tragedy to a delighted audience whilst feasting on freshly baked bread, cheese and fruit. What a wonderful end to a super day!
Year 3 and 4 would like to thank our wonderful parent helpers who worked enthusiastically and happily in their given role!
