Year 6 Swavesey 'BLUE' compete in the Cambridgeshire Dynamo Cricket Schools Competition 2025

Great teamwork and sportsmanship from the Swavesey 'Blue' team.

The final ever primary school competition, for 20 Year 6s, took place on Wednesday 11th June at Foxton Cricket Club, for the Cambridgeshire Dynamo Cricket Schools Competition.

As it wasn't a SCSSP competition, we knew that most of the teams would have many regular cricketers from local clubs playing, so the day would be full of challenges. Each team was placed in either the 'blue' or 'green' league (on a separate news report, as this is so long!)

Swavesey in the 'blue' league had their first game against Foxton, which was a very competitive game, with Swavesey winning by 83 runs to 56. Straight into the second match against Great Abington. Swavesey 'blue' were playing against lots of regular cricketers, but were resilient and worked together, scoring 53 runs but losing the game as the opposition scored 124 runs.  This didn't deter the team from wanting to play more matches after a brief lunch break. The third match was against a team who also regularly play together at weekends, Thriplow. This was a really tough game but Swavesey 'blue' were extremely proud, losing by only 100 runs to 85 runs. The final game in ' blue' league was against Harston and Newton. A very close match and excellent play by both teams, but giving Swavesey a well-deserved win of 97 runs to 74 runs.

Swavesey 'blue' finished 3rd in the 'blue' league, so we were meeting a team in the 'green' league for our final match, Barnabas Oley (who Swavesey 'blue' had played and lost against.

Swavesey 'blue' were very proud of their efforts, and they all agreed that 'Buddy' was player of the team, having made 7 catches during the day. Swavesey 'blue' put in a great effort but were defeated by 125 runs to 57 runs. Finding out from Barnabas Oley, that the team play regularly outside of school together for a cricket team, made Swavesey 'blue' feel even prouder of their efforts!

Here's what the team thought of the day:

Tilly: I can catch and get people out!

Ryan: I learnt that you should take your time before hitting the ball and not lunge at it!

Darshan: eyes on the ball at all times!

Almir: It was great fun.

Florence: Make sure you're in the right position! I learnt to improve my technique during the day.

Annie: I improved a lot during the day. I learnt a lot as well.

Zackai: I enjoyed having fun, without it being really competitive all the time.

Parker: I kept hitting the ball really hard and scored lots of 4's and 6's during the day!

Jesse: I had a great day. I really enjoyed all the cricket games, even though we lost some.

Adrianna: I loved all the games and my parents came to watch me too!
