SCSSP Year 4 Dynamo Cricket Competition 2025

Year 4 Dynamo Cricket Team, enjoying the competitive experience.

On Thursday 26th June, 10 Year 4s travelled to Caldecote Cricket Club to compete in the final SCSSP competition of the school year for Swavesey!

It was, apart from in PE lessons, their first competitive games against other schools. Swavesey were placed in the 'OVAL' league and were all extremely nervous about their first match, which was against Bourn. The team really focussed and supported each other, with some amazing fielding and batting. After a great effort, Swavesey lost by  72 runs to 77 runs, so close!

Going into the second match against Trumpington Park B, there was a much more positive vibe from the team, after such a close result in the previous match. In this match, there were plenty of 4's and 6's hit by Swavesey but also some excellent fielding with catches and wickets stumped! The final score was a great win for Swavesey, by 125 runs to 49 runs.

Our third match, against Jeavons Wood, proved to be a difficult loss, by 65 runs to 55 runs, after the 'app' scoring had a 'glitch' whilst Swavesey were batting, causing all sorts of confusion about the score and numbers of balls bowled, believing we were winning at that point.

After a quick lunch break, the team didn't let the previous loss deter their positive attitude for the final game against Willingham, which we won by 127 runs to 44 runs!

Final positions for the 'OVAL' league were : 1st Bourn / 2nd SWAVESEY / 3rd Jeavons Wood / 4th Willingham / Trumpington Park B.

This is what the team thought about their experience:

Chloe: Really fun all day and I enjoyed the games. My mum even came to watch me too!

Romi: We didn't win every game, but I certainly got better at batting.

Elliot R: It was a great day. I played all the matches and I improved in confidence and my ability.

Ethan: It was a fun day. I hadn't played much before except in PE, and I'm a really good wicketkeeper!

Oscar Mc: I loved having a whole day of playing cricket! I really enjoyed batting.

Sofia: It was great fun. I am proud of all the runs I made. I also learnt that I am good at bowling.

Mark: I really loved it all. I batted lots of 4's and 6's, which I liked doing.

Taher: It was fun. I am really proud of the team for coming 2nd!

Oli:I enjoyed playing cricket with my friends, and they were really good matches too. I risked injury by diving to stop a ball scoring a 4!

Freddie: I play cricket outside of school, so I enjoyed showing off my cricket skills and improving them. I am proud of everyone and us coming 'Runners-Up'.
