Hello Yellow! Mental Health Awareness at Swavesey!
On Wednesday 8th October, Swavesey Primary School supported Mental Health Awareness day by dressing in bright yellow and taking time to discuss not only the importance of looking after your own mental wellbeing but also some mindfulness stategies that we can all use to help us feel calm. Here are some of the children's thoughts on their experience in school that day:
Yellow day
To start the day off, as everyone filtered into the classroom, we were greeted by a sea of yellow: yellow T shirts; yellow trousers, and much more yellow. We were also welcomed by a plain black and white sheet with the title: I am amazing! Emblazoned on the top. It instructed us to fill in different balloons containing different questions about ourselves like I am a good friend because, I am good at because. After we had completed and potentially coloured the sheet, we moved to assembly, the whole school were discussing what the other year groups had been doing that very morning. When break arrived they had the speakers on the field and a crowd gathered and some were dancing others singing. It was just like one mammoth party. To our great delight we continued this ‘mammoth party’ for the whole of lunch as well! It was such good fun! And finally, to end the wonderfully yellow day, we enjoyed some ‘calming’ yoga and even though we were squeezed into the classroom it didn’t stop us having fun.

Mental health day dressing in yellow
On mental health day we dressed in yellow and had a special mental health assembly. In year 5/6 we did yoga to make ourselves calm and relaxed. During the day, Bear came round to the classes for us to stroke him. When we got into school we had an activity where we wrote good things about ourselves to make us feel good! At lunch, we had a disco on the playground .The whole day was great with fun packed activities to do.
Overall the day was great and I would love to do it next year!

Yellow Day!
On yellow day we did a bunch of different activities but first let me tell you about the assembly. In assembly we talked about Young Minds and how we could help. For lunch and break we had a party. We played different music n a speaker and everyone was dancing and singing to the music.
The whole school was yellow and we partied until the end of lunch. In the afternoon we did lots of activities. We did a PE lesson about footgoldf and aftert that we did a Harry Potter themed yoga session. In the yoga session we did things like stretching to make all of the houses such as: Gryfindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
Overall I think yellow day was really fun and enjoyable. All the activities were fun and the whole school was covered in yellow clothes or had something to represent children's mental health.
